The Rock Island Arsenal has been an active manufacturer of military equipment and ordnance since the 1880s. Rock Island is the only active U.S. Army foundry in existence today, and many of the items that the arsenal manufactures include grenade launchers, weapons simulators and M119 towed howitzers. The arsenal was once home to the Union Army prison camp which housed over 2,000 Confederates during the Civil War. Rock Island Arsenal is located between Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Illinois.
The on post housing at Rock Island Arsenal is limited and many families choose to live off post. There are no single soldier barracks, so unaccompanied personnel will need to find accommodations off post as well.
